Academic rock star, Slovenian philosopher and cultural critic Slavoj Zizek has for a long time courted a popular profile, featuring in no fewer than five films and even writing a catalogue for American outfitters Abercrombie & Fitch. And as his star has risen, he has acquired quite a fan base. Students and experienced academics alike cram themselves into packed lecture theatres to hear him speak, some even asking for autographs. This despite the fact that Zizek, a scruffy, bear-like man, often looks -- as one academic puts it in Astra Taylor's documentary portrait Zizek! -- like he "needs a shower.
